covid hobby turned small business

my work

jacob hale pottery is a one-person business I nervously launched in february 2022, with the goal to create a diverse but cohesive collection of mugs, planters, pots, and other functional, handmade pottery. although i am always making changes, improvements, and expanding the line, i am humbled by what it has become in such a short time.

my art is inspired by nature, often highlighting my love for bees, birds, and flora. i enjoy using earthen-colored glazes and experimenting with organic shapes. all my art is lead free, microwave safe, and dishwasher safe. thank you for stopping by!

me

during the covid pandemic, i found myself needing a creative outlet to help cope with everything that was happening in the world. i had always wanted to dive deep into pottery, but i had never touched a potter's wheel before and had only made a couple of small handbuilt items in elementary and middle school. the first several months were a struggle, and experimented a lot with different shapes, sizes, glazes, and techniques.  i could tell that i had a knack for throwing pots and really enjoyed the creative process of crafting beautiful (well, not all of them were beautiful) works of functional art from a lump of clay. after great reception from my first commission, i decided to finally open up an online shop and begin attending local art fairs to get my art more out in the world.

when i’m not throwing pots, i enjoy cooking, swimming, working out, spending time in nature, and hanging out with friends and my dog, sadie.
